Winter Styles on the Street

•January 10, 2010 • 3 Comments

I know this brutal winter is overwhelming. Forget work, you want to stay in, cuddle in your bed, grab a hot chocolate, and stay warm. *Aaaahh, the good life*… Okay, let’s snap out of that dream, because we all know we have to go out to work, meet people, socialize, etc. We don’t need to kill our style to keep warm. We can stay warm by wearing stylish clothes without having to become a scene on the street, like these three women here. They all kept their style modern, and warm.

She’s wearing a vintage coat, a men’s winter hat, a handbag from a flea market from France, and a pullover sweater from China.

Introspective Art | Neysa Jin

•January 6, 2010 • 1 Comment

Recently, on my trip to Miami, I had the chance to head down to the Arts Center of  South Florida. There, I met an artist, Neysa Jin, whose work truly was inspirational. The work in the artist’s own words is, “a private, introspective meditation on my own fear, longing and hope.”

I had the chance to ask  some questions since the work was SO interesting to me.

  • How and what are you inspired by?

“My work is the backwards journey from a personal experience to the overarching concepts that drove and motivated those involved, including myself, to act. The materials and objects I use are integral to rendering my interpretations of these concepts.”

  • How has art, or what you specifically do changed your life?

“I use art to explore human psyche and to know myself better.  We are like two parallel vines of the same plant. It isn’t that art has changed my life so much, as it is more a partner.  I respond to it and it responds to me and we change together and grow together.”

  • Describe your artwork in one word.

“Introspective”

Check out the artist’s website here.

Blue Velvet Dress

•January 5, 2010 • Leave a Comment

There’s something I simply love about this picture. Maybe its the quirky platinum blonde hair on that cute female. Maybe the picture was taken in Paris, and I’m oh so in lurve with Paris(said in a French accent); or it could be THE highlight of the picture and maybe the reason WHY this picture was taken in the first place. The Royal Blue Velvet Dress. LOVELY!!! It looks super chic; the cut is so modern. It can be worn with sexy high heels or with boots.

Whatever you pair it with, this dress will do you no wrong. I have seen this fabric in many stores this season. And looks like its making an official come back. Just don’t bring back your velour suits. Uggghhh … that doesn’t count as fashion. This dress sure does though.

•January 4, 2010 • Leave a Comment

First of all, let me take a minute to wish every one of you a Happy New Year! I hope this year brings about success and joy to every individual in the world and fill our lives with love and passion to live.

Ok, now back to work. It’s finally 2010! Recession is supposedly over, and sales are ON like never before. You must be thinking that every block you’re turning on in NYC, you see a sale. It seems like every store has a sale. Whether it be a clothing store or home decor. You can find almost anything and everything you want on a discounted price.

For fashion lovers, check out stores such as GAP, Banana Republic, H&M, ZARA, TopShop, and many more.

For people who have just moved out in to their new apartments, starting a new life in a new year can be a bit scary and exhausting when it comes to furniture or home decor. But stores such as Crate & Barrel, CB2, MUJI, etc. are good stores to check out to make your lives easier and more designed filled.

So next time you see a sale at a store near you, definitely check it out, because post holidays sales are the best!

Lady GaGa Barbie

•January 4, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Forget the typical Barbie you played with when you were little. Kids these days might have an option of a Barbie that looks and dresses like Lady GaGa. Veik, 29, an artist from China was inspired by GaGa for this new type of Barbie. I think its a great idea, and should definitely be sold here in the U.S. Only thing is, I don’t see GaGa smiling the way this doll is.

The MTA Inspires My Fashion Sense

•December 16, 2009 • 1 Comment

You guys ever wake up in the morning thinking today is your day. Nothing will go wrong at work, you’re going to be looking so fashionable that random photographers on the street will be taking pictures of you to post on their websites. And then the train car door opens, the wind hits your face, and you see a girl step in dressed in Chanel from head-to-toe. There goes your sunshine, you’re not the main focus in the train anymore, and even your coffee starts tasting bitter. Your stylish jacket, stockings, and pumps look too “simple”; only because she looks like she’s going to a fashion show, whereas you’re just going to same old boring work.

This scenario has happened to me so many times. Some days when I feel like I’m the most stylish person on the block, there comes along another fashionista to steal my spotlight. But what I’ve learned from situations like these is that we should learn from other people’s fashion sense. We can apply it to ourselves and filter out everything that won’t suit us and that will be unnecessary. For example, I’m a very curvy female. Most likely the above mentioned Chanel-wearing female’s clothes won’t even fit me. So what I can do is study what people are wearing and modify it to my body type.

Some of the most fashionable train lines are the F, A, R, 2, 3 and 6 trains — mostly because of the areas these trains pass through. The F goes through Park Slope in Brooklyn and Lower East Side. Both areas have a very similar fashion sense and 85% of the train passengers will have great style. So next time you’re on the train, don’t just sit there drinking your coffee and wondering what you’ll have for lunch; because watching people on the train and noticing how they dress will help you a lot to understand your individual style and body type.

Chanel’s Pre-Fall Collection 2010

•December 11, 2009 • 2 Comments

One word…Chanel. I don’t think I need to write anything else, besides the fact that these clothes are super modern, but classic, with a hint of Asian/Russian inspirations. All that and still keeping it classic “Chanel“!

Bargain Hunting In New York 12.09.09

•December 9, 2009 • 1 Comment

It’s a bit hard to find bargains after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Clothing or any department stores don’t want to put their items on sale for particular reasons. Some reasons being that soon after Thanksgiving, people start shopping for Christmas gifts for their loved ones, and a lot of people will end up buying things on regular price. If you’re smart enough, you will complete your X-mas shopping around Black Friday or Cyber Monday time because almost all stores have a huge sale.

Give the sales some time after Thanksgiving; I would say at least 2 weeks. The closer the Christmas date comes, the more sales will be held, and the happier your wallet will be by you saving some mint. Right now, most stores such as Old Navy and Forever 21 have a sale on their items. Not everything, but things that could be bought as gifts, such as hats, gloves, pajamas — the typical gifts for family members. If you like to spend more and buy electronics and other such items, then those are also reduced to a lower price. Just check out Best Buy, or any other of your favorite electronic stores.

At the moment, good stores to check out are Old Navy, H&M, and also Forever 21 as they have sales going on. Most stores almost always have a clearance section, so do check that section out too because sometimes you can pick an item up for $4.99 that would’ve been sold for $19.99 original price. I have done that so many times and a lot of things in my closet are from clearance sections that look like they were bought from a chic boutique. Don’t be shy or ashamed of buying items from a clearance rack; it’s recession, we all understand.

The Invisible Man

•December 8, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Liu Bolin, 35, is the invisible man. Not because he has super powers or anything, but he has the power to make people think that he’s not there. Weird? I thought so too.

His art is a way to protest against the government who shut down his art studio. Now, what he does is takes a picture and studies it thoroughly. Then, paints himself to fit in to the picture and make it seem like he blends in to the background. He sure as hell does a great job at it. I’m very much impressed…are you?
